Presentation of Credentials, Jairo Valverde Bermudez, UNDP Resident Representative,  To His Excellency Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation, Republic of Suriname, Wednesday, May 12, 2021, virtually via Zoom

On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, Mr. Jairo Valverde Bermudez, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented his credentials to His Excellency Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname. Due to the global pandemic this event was held virtually.

Minister Ramdin noted that this was a timely meeting as Suriname is getting back on track with economic systems recovery, including the plan for re-structuring the economy with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with whom a staff-level agreement has been reached.   Minister Ramdin considers UNDP as part of the recovery initiative in the development space and highlighted that UNDP support is needed for the economic recovery and sees UNDP as a partner in Suriname’s recovery process.

Mr. Valverde Bermudez thanked the Minister for the opportunity to present credentials virtually during this time, congratulating the Minister on the new Government as Suriname now approaches the first anniversary of the transfer of power.  Mr. Valverde reflected on UNDP’s global reach and agreements with several partners and that these can be built on, at the country level, to support the recovery from COVID and to help to build resilience and to be prepared for future shocks. The discussions reflected on the long- standing partnership and trust between the Government of Suriname and UNDP.
