On Tuesday March 9, the Ministry of Land Policy and Forest Management (GBB), received two 4x4 Pick-ups on behalf of the Nature Conservation Division to improve patrolling and surveillance of the Bigi Pan and North Coronie MUMA areas. The sustainable management of Multi-Use Management Areas (MUMA’s) along the coast of Suriname are a high priority for the mitigation of climate change effects and conservation of biodiversity.

With the acquisition of these vehicles and continued support of the GCCA + Phase 2 project to the Ministry, law enforcement activities in these areas are ensured. Β Β Together with all stakeholders the challenge of loss of mangrove ecosystems which provide a natural defense for the coastal area against sea level rise and erosion can be addressed.
