On 1st March 2021, the Ministry of Justice and Police launched the Police Incident Form (PIF) in the Latour Police Bureau. The PIF is developed under the CariSECURE programme and the pilot will be implemented in the police bureaus in Latour and Geyersvlijt.
The PIF is a data collection tool which allows police officers to efficiently capture information when a crime/ incident is being reported such as details about the incident, the suspect and/or the victim. The application gives the police the opportunity to more efficiently design policies to fight crime based on standardized and reliable data.
The Chief of Police, Mr. Roberto Prade, who made remarks during the brief ceremony indicated that with this system Suriname will also be in a better position to more effectively collaborate with the countries in the region on issues related to crime.
The CariSECURE project is a component of USAID’s Youth Empowerment Services (YES) project and is made possible by the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the technical assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The goal of the CariSECURE project is to improve youth crime and violence policy-making and programming in the Southern and Eastern Caribbean through the use of quality, comparable and reliable national citizen security information.
